Disney’s Kali River Rapids Gets a Mythical Makeover Inspired by "Raya and the Last Dragon"

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Disney’s Animal Kingdom is thrilled to announce a major transformation for one of its beloved attractions. Kali River Rapids, which first opened in 1999, in the park’s Asia section, is set to be reimagined with the magic and adventure of Disney’s animated film "Raya and the Last Dragon."

Originally named Tiger Rapids Run, Kali River Rapids was designed to showcase the beauty and dangers of a Southeast Asian river, later shifting its focus to highlight environmental conservation issues such as illegal logging and deforestation. This thrilling white-water rafting adventure will now embark on a new chapter, taking guests on a vibrant journey through the lands of Kumandra.

Drawing inspiration from the rich cultures of Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and the Philippines, the reimagined ride will offer an immersive tour through Kumandra’s diverse regions: Heart, Fang, Spine, Talon, and Tail. Sisu, the beloved water dragon from the film, will serve as the tour guide, bringing her playful and optimistic personality to the forefront.

The adventure begins in Heart, home of Raya, featuring lush green landscapes and majestic temples inspired by Cambodia and Laos. From there, guests will travel to Tail, a desert-like region reflecting parts of Indonesia and Malaysia, where they will encounter magical elements and a stunning animatronic of Sisu. The journey continues to the snow-capped mountains of Spine, then plunges into Fang, with its sophisticated architecture inspired by Thailand. Finally, guests will navigate the bustling floating markets of Talon, reminiscent of the lively trading hubs in Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

The retheming of Kali River Rapids into Sisu’s Dragon River Rapids aims to replace the conservation theme with a rich cultural representation, adding a new layer of depth and excitement to the ride. Sisu, voiced by Awkwafina, will lead guests with humor and light-heartedness, making the journey an unforgettable experience. Additionally, a new meet-and-greet location for Raya will be established near the ride’s exit, providing fans the opportunity to meet the film’s heroine.

Stay tuned for more updates as Disney’s Animal Kingdom prepares to bring the magic of Kumandra to life with Sisu’s Dragon River Rapids.
